Movement in learning is a teaching method based on the concept that humans learn better through movement.

  • Adding movement to teaching times takes time and makes the lesson longer. That may be true. However, customizing movement activities for your learning space will increase students engagement and reduce unwanted behavior. The extra time you get kinesthetic learning will be returned in the form of improved student success. Math, reading or brain breaks we have movement activities for all students and every subject.

  • Whenever a student moves in an organized way, the brain is fully activated and begins to integrate information, opening the door to learning (Stevens-Smith, 2016).

Brain research shows that moving while learning is beneficial. Movement ignites areas of the brain as well as improves neuron connections, helps to develop different areas of the brain, and offers a variety of mental health benefits such as lowered anxiety and depression.

  • When a student participates in kinesthetic activities, a skill you will further develop is communication. Engaging in kinesthetic activities, like group roleplaying, will help promote positive social interactions and teach teamwork and cooperation. These kind of positive interactions increase self esteem which then promotes a healthy awareness for learning.

“My students were engaged and felt challenged to follow through with this activity.”

Every morning our class does Cross Crawls, and after recess we started doing eye tracking exercises. My students look forward to these and the movements get them ready to learn.

“Motus and Learning classes have made such an impact on my son. Normally one to hate “school”, he actually looked forward to his lessons. These classes fun and engaging and we saw tremendous gains in his confidence and so many academic areas. What a priceless investment. We would highly recommend purchasable materials..”
