Have you ever said the words “Please Don’t Fall Out Of Your Chair Again?”

This entire download focuses on the vestibular or balance system.

How do Spatial awareness difficulties affect the classroom?

  • Students may have a hard time following directions.

  • They seem clumsy i.e. walk into things,

  • Fall out of their chair.

  • They may have a poor sense of where they are in space.

  • Letters may be reversed often.

  • Understanding size, distance, volume, order, and time allow a child to carry out day to day tasks.  Spatial awareness also involves understanding the relationship of these objects when there is a change of position.

Spatial awareness difficulties: means a person doesn’t seem to know whether they are coming or going.  They may have a poor sense of where her body begins and the chair starts.

Spatial concepts are complex cognitive skills that most children master at an early age.  But for some, the understanding of self and of the relationships with objects within  space is difficult (such simple concepts as up, down, on, under, in, out, behind, and in front).
